Epic Games provides Cobra Simulation with Epic MegaGrant as it continues to roll out its diversification plans in Immersive Software.

We are thrilled to announce that Cobra Simulation have been successful in securing an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games, which will be used to support the formation of its Unreal Engine software team and deliver the first phase of its immersive software development plans.

Last year, as part of its resilience and diversification plan, Cobra Simulation laid the foundations to launch its immersive software strategy by appointing Professor Kenny Mitchell to the board. As a veteran of the gaming industry with a profile of leading new graphics technology and Cobra’s CTO, Kenny has set out an ambitious software road map based on his convincing experimental prototypes which focus on accelerating the process of creating training and simulation applications and beyond.

Epic Games was founded by CEO Tim Sweeney in 1991. Through the success of its Unreal Gaming engine the company has grown to become the one of the most recognised interactive entertainment companies and providers of 3D technology in the world.

Founded in 2019, the $100-million Epic MegaGrants program was launched to support game developers, enterprise professionals, media and entertainment creators, students, educators, and tool developers doing amazing things with Unreal Engine or enhancing open-source capabilities for the 3D graphics community.

Managing Director Alexander Bradley said “My team have worked incredibly hard throughout and after COVID to deliver a solid plan that will sustain and grow our business whilst contributing to the Metaverse vision. When I learned that Cobra had been awarded this funding, I must admit it was a great day, my enthusiasm and admiration for our team was immense.”

The term Metaverse is typically used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual and connected universe. The Metaverse in a broader sense may not only refer to virtual worlds, but internet as a whole, and may include the entire spectrum of augmented reality.

The support has helped Cobra Simulation to create six new jobs focused on the extensive capabilities of the Unreal Engine.

Alexander added: “Being in a position to expand our team once again after what has been a very challenging two years has been a great boost.”
