Highlighting Collaborative Success with VIOSO and Cobra Simulation
Overview
This case study aims to highlight the successful collaboration between Cobra Simulation and VIOSO in delivering a ground breaking full-motion simulation project for Coventry University.
By showcasing the innovative use of VIOSO's technology and the seamless teamwork between the two companies, we intend to demonstrate the project's excellence and the benefits of our partnership.
Project Background
Cobra Simulation entered the full-motion simulation market with the objective of utilising the latest innovations to create an immersive projection system.
Our partnership with VIOSO was crucial in achieving this goal. The collaboration brought together Cobra Simulation's expertise in motion platforms, immersive dome displays that use innovative optics and VIOSO's advanced projection technology and auto alignment, ensuring the successful delivery of a high-quality simulation system.
Key Objectives - The project had three primary objectives:
1. Single Button Re-Calibration: Streamline the projector alignment and recalibration process to be user-friendly and efficient.
2. Fully Automated Camera-Based Warp and Blend Calibration Process: Implement an automated system to handle warp and blend calibration with precision and no manual intervention utilizing calibration cameras.
3. High-Quality, High-Resolution Blended OmniFocus Immersive Projection System: Develop and deploy an industry-first high-resolution blended OmniFocus projection system on a full-motion platform.
Collaborative Element
1. Technology Integration: During the project, VIOSO acquired domeprojection to obtain additional Intellectual Property, which, when combined with VIOSO's existing software, played a pivotal role in meeting the project's objectives. This acquisition was a strategic move that enabled us to leverage cutting-edge technology for superior results.
2. Teamwork and Expertise: The synergy between Cobra Simulation and VIOSO's teams was instrumental in overcoming technical challenges and ensuring timely project delivery. The expertise of VIOSO's team in projection technology, Cobra Simulation's proficiency in motion platforms and immersive visuals created a powerful combination that drove the project's success.
3. Innovative Solutions: The collaboration fostered an environment of innovation, where both teams worked closely to develop and refine solutions that met and exceeded the client's expectations. The result was a state-of-the-art simulation system that set new standards in the industry.
Outcomes
Successful Delivery: The project was successfully delivered to Coventry University, meeting all specified objectives and earning positive feedback from the client.
Industry First: The system developed was the first of its kind, showcasing the high-resolution blended Omni Focus immersive projection on a full-motion platform.
Enhanced Capabilities: The project enhanced the capabilities of both Cobra Simulation and VIOSO, setting a benchmark for future projects and collaborations.
Conclusion
This case study highlights the powerful collaboration between Cobra Simulation and VIOSO, emphasising the technological innovations and teamwork that were key to the project's success. By focusing on the collaborative elements and the specific contributions of VIOSO's technology and team, we aim to demonstrate the value of our partnership and the potential for future joint ventures.
Alexander Bradley Project Manager said:
“The project had some complex unique technical challenges associated with the optics and motion. When we first shared the project with VIOSOs technical team we were really pleased with their positive approach, ideas and response. Despite the challenges we experienced throughout the project, the technical support was hands on and nothing short of excellent. We were extremely happy with the result having delivered on every objective. A massive thank you to the whole VIOSO team.”
Dr Sergey Kovyryalov VIOSO technical lead said:
“Our collaboration with Cobra Simulation has been a productive journey with interesting challenges and a focus on technical excellence. Despite the complexities, the team delivered an innovative solution for the full motion simulation market. The system can automatically calculate the calibration and alignment of the visual system, even if the projectors and cameras are slightly moved.
The success of this project demonstrates our advanced technology and the strength of our partnership with Cobra Simulation. We are proud to have contributed to this project, look forward to future collaborative opportunities and send a huge thanks to Alexander and Cobra for their trust.”
Caroline Lambert - Head of School Future Transport Engineering Said:
“We pride ourselves on providing excellent classroom quality teaching supported by applied, appropriate, hands-on learning. The new COBRA Full Motion Simulator is an incredible addition to that provision, made all the more special due to our own Master’s students being part of the design process. We look forward to seeing what our students, staff and collaborators at COBRA can learn, experience and achieve moving forwards.”
